When type speaks.

MA Studio I: Visual Communication Fundamentals

This project combines two assignments: a series of three posters and a motion piece addressing fundamental human rights issues, including children’s rights, gun violence, sexual and reproductive rights, and infrastructure inequality.

Typography served as the primary design element throughout the project—using icons in the posters and interface language in the motion piece—to capture attention and prompt engagement.

Posters

I designed a series of three posters that communicate what Amnesty International does in order to urge people to get involved with the organization.
MotionI created a one-minute motion piece that explores the critical theme of inequality in global development. Drawing inspiration from one of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs), my objective was to translate complex socio-economic disparities into visual narrative.
Through this project, I gained a deeper understanding of how typographic structure, kerning, pacing, and restraint influence readability as well as perceptions of urgency, responsibility, and agency. The project reinforced that typogrphy, while visually minimal, requires careful attention to detail to function effectively as a communicative tool.

Reflecting on the work, I would further refine typographic details in the poster series and place greater emphasis on early planning for the motion piece, recognizing time as a critical design element in motion-based work.
